About Anhydrous Ammonia
Anhydrous Ammonia is a clear liquid at standard temperature and pressure with a very pungent and irritating odor. When mixed with air it can become flammable. Exposure to anhydrous ammonia can cause blindness, lung damage, burns, or death. Anhydrous Ammonia is the main source of nitrogen for plant growth. It is most widely used in agricultural crop fertilization. Anhydrous Ammonia is transported in pressurized tank cars with plug type angle valves.
Anhydrous Ammonia Valve Closure Systems (Shutdown Systems)
Powell Emergency Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like Anhydrous Ammonia. Exposure to even small quantities of this fluid can cause injury and even death. In the case of an accidental release, the emergency valve closure system will close the valves in 10 seconds or less, effectively preventing further release from the container.
