Chlorine (Cl2) Emergency Shutdown System
About Chlorine
Chlorine is a greenish yellow gas with a sharp irritating odor at standard temperature and pressure. Exposure to Chlorine can cause eye, skin, throat and lung irritation. In sufficient quantities, it can burn the lungs and result in death.
Chlorine is used in the manufacture of bleach, pharmaceuticals and for water purification. It is shipped in 150# cylinders, ton containers, both having 660 type valves, and in pressurized tank cars with angle plug valves.
Preventing an Accidental Release of Chlorine
Quickly stopping the flow of chlorine in the event of an accidental release is crucial.
Powell Emergency Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like chlorine. In the case of an accidental release, the chlorine emergency shutdown system will close the container valve within seconds, effectively preventing further release regardless of where the leak occurs.
It is possible to prevent an accidental release of chlorine. Contact us today to discuss your specific application requirements.
