Railcar Gas Remote Shutdown:
My control room is quite a distance from the railcar platform. Would I be able to
activate the UniPro™ system from there?
Answer:
In the event of an emergency, the UniPro™ System will automatically respond
to any alarm input, closing valves with 120 lb-ft of torque in less than 10 seconds.
The UniPro™ Control Panel automatically activates the actuator to close the
valve in the event of a gas leak, car movement, fire alarm, seismic event, security
breach, process shutdown, or other monitored condition. You can also manually activate
the system by depressing the emergency stop button on the panel.
Due to the possible presence of stray electrical interference, the UniPro™
electrical system controls should never be more than 130 ft. (40 m) away from each
other. Powell offers Emergency Stop Push Button Panels
that can be mounted remotely. They should always be mounted within 130 ft (40 m)
from the control panel to avoid electrical interference that could affect the operation
of the system. Likewise, the UniPro™ Control
Panel should always be within 130 ft (40 m) of the
UniPro™ Air Control Unit. The same rule holds for gas sensors
and other safeties that must send an electrical signal to the UniPro™ Control
Panel.
